Save recipes from Instagram and TikTok: ten apps compared

7 min read

The recipe is in a reel, and three days later you can’t find it. Many apps now pull these recipes into your own collection from the share menu or a link. We compared ten: which sources they list, what’s free, and whether the recipe can go into a meal plan and a shopping list. Superkitchen is our own app. So we only list what the developers state in the App Store or on their websites, as of 30 September 2026.

How the import works

Tap Share on the post and pick the app, or paste the link into the app. The app reads the caption and the image, some say they also analyse the video, and AI turns it into ingredients and steps. If the recipe is only in the video and not in the caption, a screenshot helps with apps that don’t analyse video. Stories and private posts usually can’t be imported at all. Almost every app limits free imports.

The apps in detail

Superkitchen

Our app. You share an Instagram or TikTok post to the app, the iPhone reads the caption and cover image, and AI turns it into a recipe with a link to the original. Superkitchen doesn’t analyse the video, so if the recipe is only in the video, a screenshot helps. The recipe then goes into the shared meal plan, the shopping list checks the ingredients against your pantry, and nutrition per serving is calculated for free.

ReciMe

Saves from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, websites and photos, including handwritten recipes. The free version includes 5 imports a week, meal plan and shopping list; nutrition comes with Plus.

Recipe Keeper - Recipe Bro

Imports from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, X and websites, and according to the developer analyses video, photos, caption and comments. Free: 10 imports plus a one-week trial.

Recipe Keeper: CookBook

Imports from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest, plus an AI scanner for handwriting and cookbook pages. Free: 20 recipes and 20 imports; planning and nutrition are part of Pro.

Meally

Imports reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts from the share menu, plus photos and PDFs, and according to the developer also reads the video. The first 20 recipes are free, with meal planner and shopping list.

Kitchen Stories

The recipe app from Berlin imports your own recipes from Instagram, TikTok, blogs and websites with Plus only, currently on iOS only.

Pestle

A recipe manager for iPhone and iPad with import via Share and a scanner for handwritten recipes. Free up to 15 recipes; meal plans and household sharing are part of Pro.

Honeydew

Imports from social media, YouTube, screenshots, notes and photos of handwritten recipes, with an AI meal planner and calorie counter. Family sharing is part of Plus.

Recipe Keeper (Tudorspan)

A recipe manager that imports from websites, according to its website also from Instagram and TikTok, and scans photos and PDFs. Also available for Windows and Mac.

Flavorish

Imports from Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, websites, images and text. Website imports are free and unlimited, social, image and text imports five times each.

Without Instagram import

According to the developers, Paprika Recipe Manager 3, Mela and Crouton import from websites and by text recognition, but don’t list Instagram or TikTok. Paprika 4 has been in open beta since 28 September 2026 and is set to add it. Samsung Food lists website import in the App Store.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a recipe from Instagram?

Tap Share on the post and pick a recipe app that supports the share menu, or paste the link into the app. The app reads the caption and turns it into ingredients and steps. Stories and private posts usually don’t work, a screenshot helps there. How it works in Superkitchen is explained in Save recipes from Instagram and TikTok.

Which app saves TikTok recipes for free?

None of the apps we compared is completely unlimited. According to the developers: ReciMe 5 imports a week, Recipe Bro 10 imports, CookBook 20, Flavorish 5 social imports, Meally up to 20 recipes, Pestle up to 15 recipes. In Superkitchen, an import uses one credit, you get 30 to start and more for inviting friends and sharing recipes with the community.

Is the video analysed too?

Recipe Bro and Meally say they also analyse the video. Superkitchen reads the caption and cover image, the video stays on the platform. The other apps don’t say.

Can I plan and shop with the recipes afterwards?

Superkitchen, ReciMe, Recipe Bro, Meally, Honeydew, Recipe Keeper and Flavorish list a meal plan and a shopping list; with CookBook and Pestle the plan is part of Pro. Superkitchen also checks the shopping list against your pantry. More in our meal planner comparison.
